Our retreat cottage is a lovingly restored lodge, which in years gone by would have provided housing for employees of the Estate. It is surrounded by mature trees and woodland. has stunning views of the surrounding farmland and is a haven for wildlife, in particular birds of prey. 400 metres in one direction takes you to to the Listoke well, where the locals still clamber over cut stone steps to reach the crystal clear water. 400 metres the other direction takes you to the beautiful Edwardian walled gardens, which our guests have unlimited access to. The cottage is a lovely combination of simplicity, comfort and creativity. Many of the original features, such as gothic style windows have been kept. (as children we always called it the witches house because of these ‘pointy’ windows and doors). The sitting room has a log burning stove and reclaimed pitch pine floors. All the rooms have oil fired central heating, views of the surrounding landscape and are flooded with natural light. If you are looking for somewhere to get away from it all, and still be within 5 minutes drive of cosy pubs and good restaurants, look no further.
