Distilling history

When I was 7 years old we inherited Listoke from my Godmother, Betty Cairnes. Her family owned the Cairnes Brewery in Drogheda. My great grandfather worked for this brewery. His mother was a lady called Helen Woolsey. The Woolsey family not only owed a distillery in Drogheda, but also a brewery in Castlebellingham, producing the famous Woolsey Ale.
Helen Woolsey’s mother was a lady called Janet Jameson and yes, Janet Jameson.s parents were none other than John Jameson, the founder of Jameson Whisky, and Margaret Haig….another giant name in the world of Whiskey.
This makes John Jameson and Margaret Haig my great great great great grandparents.
